About Our School
About Us
Academy Jiu Jitsu is one of the few places to practice Jiu Jitsu in southeast New Mexico. As a rarity in the area, we focus on two things to create a superb experience: supplying students with a solid foundation of Jiu Jitsu skills and having fun. We don’t provide every answer on the mat, encouraging students to build upon the baseline skills we teach. Owner Victor Medrano implements this philosophy so students can create mental files to tap into to prepare themselves from real-life threats. On the flip side, fun is crucial to our training as we provide an activity to enjoy as a community. Come learn new skills and join our new Jiu Jitsu community!
Our History
While Academy Jiu Jitsu opened its doors in April 2024, the program started up years before. Owner Victor Medrano began teaching in December 2019 at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Artesia, New Mexico. Victor trained members in the Border Patrol, Secret Service, Department of Defense, and Federal Air Marshals. Now, Victor looks to grow the Roswell Jiu Jitsu community that has little martial arts exposure. This growth includes participating in our first competition in November 2024. Victor’s passion for teaching Jiu Jitsu grows daily, loving to hear from students about how much they enjoy training at Academy Jiu Jitsu.

Academy Jiu Jitsu is an environment of learning. Students build a strong foundation of Jiu Jitsu, and then are encouraged to develop their own techniques and strategies on the mat that best suit them.

One of the best traits martial arts establishes is a strong mentality. We strive to provide students a place to develop emotional toughness and coping skills to become their best selves.
Self-defense is a key for owner and head instructor Victor Medrano. Victor brings his past of teaching martial arts to law enforcement to civilian life, preparing his students for any real-life scenario they find themselves in.
Academy Jiu Jitsu has a platform to bring the community together. As one of the few martial arts academies in southeast New Mexico, we strive to build up a family-like atmosphere in Roswell and for everyone around us.
